Things to do

Here are some of our top recommendations in the local area. If you haven’t been to Shropshire before, you’re in for a treat - this quiet part of the world has lots to offer!

Walk to Ditton Priors via Withygreaves woods

This is a nice walk straight from the gate, taking you up to the quaint village of Ditton Priors via quiet roads and footpaths. From Ditton you can walk up the Clee Hill, the tallest hill in Shropshire for outstanding views and a bigger loop - or if that is enough of a walk for you, you could also go to the pub or the Willows cafe before walking back. There are other footpaths around the hamlet too, just ask us to borrow a map!

Ludlow

Ludlow is a beautiful, historic town just 20 minutes down the road. It has a lovely castle, plenty of beautiful independent shops, a market every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and a great farmers market every second Thursday - well worth checking out. The farm shop offers a fantastic range of food and gifts, many produced locally. There are also some fabulous walks nearby including the wonderful Mortimer Forest, one of our favourite walking spots.

Bridgnorth

Bridgnorth has a market on the high street every Friday and Saturday that can be great for fruit and veg, meat from Aldersons butchers, and other bits and pieces. The town itself is very beautiful with a funicular linking high and low town, plenty of historic shops, cafes and pubs, a small cinema, and you can take the Severn Valley Railway steam train from Bridgnorth all the way to Kidderminster, or enjoy a short journey to Highley for The Engine House and Country Park or Arley for the beautiful riverside village and Arley Arboretum.

Church Stretton

There are lots of great walks from Church Stretton, which is only 20 minutes drive away. One of our favourites is the Cardingmill valley, which can be accessed from the National Trust car park, or you can walk from the town centre.

Ironbridge town and museums

Ironbridge, the birthplace of the industrial revolution, is today a beautiful scenic town set along the river Severn, named after the famous bridge that links the two sides. As well as the town itself, Ironbridge is home to many museums including Victorian town Blists Hill, science and engineering museum Enginuity, the tile museum, museum of iron, and many more. Find out more about all of these here. There is also the lovely Green Wood Centre not too far away which offers lots of courses and events in green woodworking.

Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury is the county town of Shropshire and offers lots of lovely restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops in its historic town centre. The quarry park by the river is worth a look too.

Hawkstone Park and Follies

Set in over 100 acres of forest, crags, caves and follies, Hawkstone Park and Follies is a great day out for exploring.

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

At the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre you can meet a mammoth, explore exhibitions and meadows, and relax in the cafe, and it’s just a 20 minute drive.

Our top 5 local pubs

  • The Hundred House, a beautiful setting for a meal you won’t forget - we had our winter wedding celebration meal here!

  • The George and Dragon - community owned, low ceilinged, decent prices, and their website URL is https://www.thebestpubintheworld.com/ - you be the judge!

Finally - if you don’t want to go anywhere, just relax and unwind in this special part of the world! Sit by the cosy campfire, read a good book, and enjoy the big sky and peace and quiet. You can also buy fresh organically produced vegetables from us, grown right next door, or for other supplies there is Corve Barn farm shop down Brockton lane that sells cakes and snacks, sausage rolls, gifts and much more - this is just a 3 minute drive, 6 minute cycle or 20 minute walk away.
